The Ankh is the Egyptian (Kemetic) Hieroglyphic symbol for “Life”. In Egyptian texts and paintings the Ankh is often seen in the hand of one of the Deities which sometimes symbolizes Their ability to give Life or to bring to life the soul of the deceased in the afterlife. It is often seen being presented to a ruler or to the soul of the deceased in the Egyptian book of the dead (book of coming forth in the Light).
It has become a widespread symbol used in many alternative circles today and is often used in a protective context…with its associations of vitality and renewal.
