Contemporary Cernunnos Talisman
Contemporary Cernunnos Talisman
Cernunnos is an ancient Celtic Gallo-Roman Deity pictured with Antlers and sitting cross legged…the most famous example is His image on the Gunstrap Cauldron, a Celtic artifact that famously bears His divine image. There isn’t much historical information about His worship but He is often seen with stags, serpents, wolves…and other wild creatures…since wild animals are associated with Him. He is thought to be God of the Sun and Lord of the Hunt…being both Hunter and Hunted. His sacred places are the wild places in Nature. In modern practice, He is often thought to be associated with the Triple Goddess…and often He is seen to embody male sexuality in all its power.
He is Youth, Father and Sage.
In one version of the “Charge of the God”, He proclaims, “See in the yearly festivals, my birth, death and rebirth…and know that such is the destiny of all creatures.” He is seen as the Life in Nature that forever is in cycle with The Goddess. In agricultural myths, She is the fertile ground of Being that receives the seeds from the dying crops so that they may be reborn the following year.
We are pleased to offer this Talisman, handmade lovingly by Witch Joseph…the Talisman is strung with 6mm black glass beads, 6mm steel accent beads, 6mm Carnelian beads (associated with the Cernunnos in His fiery aspects and solar associations), and small flat 6mm black accent beads…all completed with the contemporary Image of Cernunnos with Pentagram between His antlers on a .98” stainless steel image. The Talisman is approximately 22 inches long with a stainless steel lobster clasp. Completed during Samhaintide 2024…and for His honor.
